Even though India’s Covid-19 caseload rose to 73,70,468 with 63,371 new infections being reported in a day, the number of people who have recuperated from the disease crossed 64 lakh, pushing the country’s recovery rate to 87.56%.

 Today is the 207th day since India implemented a nationwide lockdown to help curb the novel coronavirus pandemic. In this period, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have reported the highest number of cases, and infections are still rising rapidly in states like Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Yet, India’s recovery rate continues to rise too, now standing at 87.6 percent. «India continues to have one of the lowest Covid-19 deaths per million globally, currently pegged at 80,» the Health Ministry said.

 The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said, “9,22,54,927 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the country till yesterday (October 15). Of these, 10,28,622 were tested yesterday.” The number of coronavirus deaths also climbed to 1,12,161 with the virus claiming 895 lives in a span of 24 hours. The Covid-19 case fatality rate was recorded at 1.52%. However, for eight days in a row, the number of active cases of Covid-19 has remained below 9 lakhs. Currently, there are 8,04,528 active cases of coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 10.92% of the total caseload, as recoveries have surged to 64,53,779.

 Delhi’s numbers were seen going up again in the last three days as, after a gap of almost two weeks, daily new infections were more than 3,000 in number. With this rise in daily case counts, Delhi has regained the number one position amongst cities with the maximum number of coronavirus cases in the country. On Thursday, Delhi recorded almost 3,500 new cases, taking the total number of infected people in the city to 3.21 lakhs.

 1,227 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the neighbouring state of Haryana, with 1,139 discharges and 11 deaths also reported. The state’s total cases now stands at 1,47,933, including 10,441 active cases, 1,35,858 discharged persons and 1,634 total deaths. Maharashtra reported 11,447 new Covid-19 cases, while 13,885 were discharged and 306 people died. The total positive caseload count stood at 15,76,062, including 13,44,368 discharges, 1,89,715 active cases and 41,502 deaths. 

Mumbai itself reported 1,823 new Covid-19 cases. 1,644 persons were also discharged, while 37 people died, in the city. Karnataka reported 7,542 new cases, besides reports of 73 people dying and 8,580 being discharged.

 The total Covid-19 cases in the state have risen to a total of 7,51,390 now, including 10,356 deaths and 6,28,588 discharges. Meanwhile, the number of active cases stands at 1,12,427.  

Tamil Nadu also reported 4,389 new coronavirus cases and 57 deaths, taking the total number of cases in the state to 6,79,191. The death toll was at 10,529. 6,27,703 people have been discharged in the state so far, of which 5,245 people were discharged in the last 24 hours.
