Veteran Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami has addressed and dismissed rumors regarding his supposed marriage to Indian tennis legend Sania Mirza. These rumors began circulating on social media following Sania’s divorce from former Pakistan cricket captain Shoaib Malik.

In an interview with Shubhankar Mishra on his YouTube show ‘Unplugged,’ Mohammed Shami not only refuted the rumors but also criticized those spreading fake news. He emphasized the importance of responsible meme creation, pointing out that while memes are often made for humor and entertainment, they should not hurt others’ sentiments.

“It’s weird and done purposely for some lame fun. But what can be done? If I open my phone, I see those memes. I think that memes are made for fun, but if they are related to someone’s life, then you must think about it before sharing. These people share from unverified pages and get away by saying anything and everything,” Shami remarked.

Mohammed Shami further stated that he would respond accordingly if such memes were shared from verified accounts. “But I would like to say one thing – if you have the guts to say all these things from a verified page, then I will reply. Try achieving success, help people, and upgrade yourself, then I will believe that you are a good person.”

Shami on Kohli and Sharma’s T20I Retirements
Shami also commented on the recent retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from T20 Internationals, following India’s T20 World Cup win in Barbados last month.

Kohli was the first to announce his retirement from the format after earning the Player of the Match award for his 76 off 59 balls, which led India to a seven-run victory over South Africa in the final at Kensington Oval on June 29. Kohli ended his T20I career as the second-highest run-scorer with 4,188 runs in 125 matches, including one century and 38 fifties.

Shortly after, Rohit Sharma, the highest-ever run-scorer in T20Is with 4,231 runs in 159 matches, also announced his retirement during the post-game press conference. This was followed by all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja’s retirement announcement.

“The retirement of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from T20Is was a shock. They have been stalwarts for India, delivering outstanding performances and earning their titles as kings of white-ball cricket. Their simultaneous retirement is surprising, but it’s part of the natural cycle when one player leaves, another steps in. Replacing such stars will be a significant challenge,” Shami remarked.

These retirements mark the end of an era for Indian cricket, as the team looks to find new talent to fill the void left by these legendary players.
