Indian Army jawans foiled a major terror infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district early Tuesday, officials said. One Army jawan was martyred during the exchange of fire.

“Alert troops foiled an infiltration bid by effectively engaging infiltrating terrorists with effective fire in the Battal sector at 0300 hours,” White Knight Corps said on X.

“During the exchange of heavy fire, one braveheart has been injured. Operations are continuing,” the Corps added.

According to sources, a group of three to four armed terrorists was spotted attempting to enter the Battal forward area of the Krishnagati belt. Alert troops detected their movement and immediately engaged them.

In the intense firefight, the troops forced the terrorists to retreat. One soldier was injured and evacuated to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. Sources also indicated that the terrorists suffered losses during the clash.

A search operation has been launched in the area to locate any remaining infiltrators, officials said.
