The film premiered in theaters on July 12 but received a lukewarm response from audiences and critics. In response to the feedback, the makers have trimmed the film by 20 minutes. The edited version now runs for 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Indian 2 continues the story of Senapathy, with Kamal Haasan reprising his iconic role. This time, Senapathy returns to India to combat corruption after a group of young people reaches out for his help. They use social media to expose systemic issues and call upon Senapathy to take action.
In addition to Kamal Haasan, the film stars Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha, SJ Suryah, and Vivek. Kajal Aggarwal also appeared in the film, but her character will be featured in Indian 3 as announced by Shankar.
Looking ahead, Kamal Haasan is set to star in Indian 3, which will explore the backstory of Senapathy’s parents. He is also involved in Mani Ratnam’s upcoming project, Thug Life.
