Zoram People’s Movement Conducts Worship Service at Party Office in Aizawl

Following the Zoram People’s Movement’s (ZPM) stunning victory in the Mizoram assembly elections, the party’s newly elected MLAs gathered at the Aizawl office for a worship service, attributing their success to the community’s women.

Expressing gratitude, Baryl Vanneihsangi, a ZPM MLA, dedicated her win to the women in society. “I dedicate this win to every woman in our society and community,” she affirmed to ANI.

Following that, the ZPM’s newly elected MLAs will meet at Lalduhoma, the residence of the ZPM’s Chief Ministerial candidate, at 8 p.m.

In a surprising turn of events that defied poll predictions, the ZPM won a landslide victory, capturing 27 of Mizoram’s 40 assembly constituencies. The MNF came in second with ten seats, while the BJP and Congress received two and one, respectively.

Lalduhoma, who won the Serchhip seat, outlined the government’s top priorities for the “next 100 days” after taking the oath of office.

Highlighting a compassionate stance on Myanmar refugees, Lalnghinglova Hmar, the newly elected MLA from Aizawl West-II, emphasized the shared heritage between Mizos across borders. He stressed the need to address this matter within the party’s framework.

Speaking on his unexpected victory, Hmar expressed determination to tackle forthcoming challenges. “This victory marks the beginning of challenging work. I have received the highest percentage of votes, which was unexpected,” he conveyed.

The ZPM’s triumph disrupted the longstanding political sway between the MNF and Congress, emerging victorious in a state where power alternated between the two for decades.

Lalduhoma’s journey from an IPS officer to leading ZPM’s historic win has been remarkable. Despite facing hurdles and a brief disqualification, his resilient leadership steered ZPM to an unprecedented win, marking a significant shift in Mizoram’s political landscape.
