Zimbabwe Vice President Chiwenga Arrives in New Delhi for 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave

Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga, arrived in New Delhi on Monday morning to attend the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave. His participation underscores the strong relationship between India and Zimbabwe.

Randhir Jaiswal, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, welcomed Chiwenga’s arrival in a post on X, stating, “VP C.G.D.N. Chiwenga of Zimbabwe arrives to a warm welcome in New Delhi for the 19th CII India-Africa Business Conclave.” He further noted that Chiwenga’s presence at the Conclave emphasizes the robust ties between India and Zimbabwe and reinforces India’s commitment to a stronger, collaborative relationship with Africa.

Earlier this month, on August 6, India and Zimbabwe held their third Foreign Office Consultations in Harare, where they reviewed bilateral relations. Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including development partnerships, trade and economic relations, digital technology, agriculture, health, defense, consular, and cultural issues.

The 19th edition of the CII India-Africa Business Conclave aims to serve as a catalyst for Africa’s growth and to explore the role of the India-Africa partnership in integrating regional and global value chains. India, which remains the fastest-growing large economy, boasts favourable demographics, improving institutional strength, and enhanced governance. Despite challenges from the pandemic and other economic issues, India’s GDP is estimated to reach USD 3.7 trillion for FY24, making it the 5th largest economy in the world.

In June, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the rapid changes taking place in Africa, describing it as a continent on the path from being the cradle of human civilization to becoming the land of the future. During Africa Day celebrations in New Delhi, Jaishankar emphasized the “deep-rooted” India-Africa relations, noting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has redefined India’s engagement with the continent. He described Africa as a “natural partner” for India, with a relationship anchored in trust and mutual respect, focused on value addition within Africa, including production, research, localization, and local employment.
