Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has strongly dismissed the allegations regarding the water quality at the ongoing Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, calling them part of a ‘false campaign’ aimed at harming the reputation of the event. He confidently stated that the waters of Sangam are not only safe for taking a holy dip but also suitable for drinking. This statement came in response to a report from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), which highlighted that certain areas in Prayagraj failed to meet water quality standards for bathing due to elevated levels of faecal coliform, a type of bacteria commonly linked to contamination from human or animal waste.

Speaking in the state assembly, Yogi Adityanath condemned the spreading of ‘fake videos’ and false allegations against Sanatan Dharma, the Ganga River, and the Maha Kumbh, emphasizing that such actions are an attack on the faith of millions of devotees. He reminded that the government’s role is to serve the people and ensure the success of this massive religious event, which has already seen over 56 crore devotees participate.

The Chief Minister also addressed the tragic stampede that occurred on January 29 during the Kumbh, offering his condolences to the victims and their families. He criticized those who were politicizing the incident and assured that the government would provide full support to the affected families during this difficult time.
