A photograph of a woman SPG (Special Protection Group) commando walking behind Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Parliament has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread discussions. Many users praised the image as a symbol of women empowerment, showcasing their growing role in high-profile security assignments.

One X (formerly Twitter) user, Ruchi Kokcha (@ruchikokcha), commented:
“Good to see a female commando behind our PM Sh Narendra Modi ensuring his security. This is true women empowerment. This is the win of Real Feminism.”

Another user, Dr. Sudhakar K (@DrSudhakar_), wrote:
“From Agniveer to Fighter pilots, from Combat Positions to Commando in Prime Minister’s SPG, the participation of women in the armed forces has increased significantly. More power to women. Thank you PM @narendramodi Ji. #Narishakti.”

Women in SPG: Responsibilities and Roles

The SPG inducted women into its elite security force in 2015. Women commandos perform critical duties, including:

  • Advanced Deployment: Deployed at Parliament gates for frisking female visitors.
  • Close Protection: Surveillance and escorting female guests meeting the Prime Minister.
  • Foreign Assignments: Participating in Advance Security Liaison (ASL) during the PM’s international trips.

At present, around 100 women serve as SPG commandos, contributing to close protection and advanced security arrangements.

About SPG

The Special Protection Group (SPG) was established in 1985 to provide close security to the Prime Minister, former PMs, and their immediate families. Known for their professionalism, leadership, and innovative security measures, the SPG works in collaboration with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and State Police Forces.

This viral image highlights not only the vital role women play in national security but also their growing representation in elite positions, inspiring many across the country.
