The national capital, New Delhi, has a new police commissioner appointed. Satish Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer from the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the head of the Delhi Police.
With more than 30 years in uniform, Golcha has handled some of the most important posts in Delhi and outside. His appointment comes at a time when the city is facing tough challenges of law and order, political tensions, and rising security needs.
Golcha has worked in many key roles in the Delhi Police. He served as Special Commissioner of Police for Law and Order (Zone 2) and also led the Crime Branch.

These jobs gave him direct experience in handling sensitive investigations and keeping peace in the capital. He has also supervised different police ranges across Delhi, giving him a strong understanding of the city’s diverse problems.
In 2022, Golcha became the Director General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh. A year later, he returned to Delhi. He first took charge as Special CP (Intelligence), where he managed the city’s security network.
Later, he was appointed as Director General of Prisons. He looked after Delhi’s high-security jails such as Tihar, Mandoli, and Rohini, while serving that role. These positions showed his skill in handling both security and administration.
Golcha belongs to the AGMUT cadre, which includes Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories like Delhi. This has made Delhi one of his main areas of service.

He was the best candidate for the position of commissioner because of his background in law enforcement, intelligence, and prisons. Additionally, his appointment follows recent events in Delhi, such as the assault on CM Rekha Gupta during a public gathering.
The post of Delhi Police Commissioner had been lying vacant since Sanjay Arora retired on August 1. SBK Singh, Director General of Home Guards, was serving as acting commissioner until now.
With Golcha’s appointment, Delhi Police finally has a full-time leader. His entry is expected to bring more direction and stability to the force.
From crime control to law and order, from intelligence to prison administration, Golcha has handled almost every aspect of policing. He now takes charge of the 80,000-strong Delhi Police, which works directly under the Union Home Ministry.
His leadership will play a key role in tackling the capital’s complex challenges in the days ahead.
