The Punjab Police have unearthed Whatsapp chats of a group called ‘Akali Dal Waris Punjab De’ discussings plans to assassinate Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia. The group , which reportedly had over 600 members, allegedly support jailed MP Amritpal Singh.
The chats, which emerged on social media on Sunday, also mentioned possible attacks on Parminder Singh Talwara, a close associate of late activist Deep Sidhu. Authorities said the group promoted anti-national sentiments and included conversations on arms procurement, foreign funding, and mobilising violence after the extension of Amritpal’s detention under the National Security Act (NSA).
The Cyber Crime Police Station in Moga filed an FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Information Technology Act, including Sections 61(2)(a), 113(3), 152, and 353. The accused have been identified as Lakhdeep Singh Sardargarh (Bathinda), Balkar Singh (New Model Town, Khanna), and Pawandeep Singh (Khote, Moga).
Balkar and Pawandeep have been arrested so far. Sources in the police department said the group chats included volunteers offering to lay down their lives on assurance that their families will be taken care of.
Majithia, meanwhile, released audio clips allegedly featuring Amritpal Singh admitting to links with gangsters and criminal activities.
