Police have arrested YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra on charges of spying. She allegedly had links with Pakistani Intelligence Operatives (PIOs). The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Intelligence Bureau (IB) are now investigating her. Authorities are also examining her trips to Pakistan and China. They are especially focusing on her visit just before the Pahalgam terror attack.
Police Find Diary With Details About Pakistan Visit
While questioning Malhotra, Haryana Police found her personal diary. It gave more details about her time in Pakistan. In one diary entry, she described her return to India after a 10-day trip. Her words translated, “During this time, I received a lot of love from the people of Pakistan. Our subscribers and friends also came to meet us. The two days we got to visit Lahore were not enough.” She called Pakistan “unbelievable” and “colourful”. She wrote that her experience there was beyond words. In another entry, she made an appeal to Pakistani authorities. “Protect the temples there and let Indians meet their families from whom they were separated in 1947,” she wrote.
Police Arrest Malhotra in Hisar
On May 16, police arrested the 33-year-old from her home in Hisar. She runs a YouTube channel called Travel with Jo, which has over 3.77 lakh subscribers. Officials booked her under Sections 3 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act, 1923. She was also charged under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Investigators Trace Links With Pakistani Officials
Authorities found that Malhotra regularly contacted Ehsan-ur-Rahim, also known as Danish. He worked at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi. Their communication reportedly continued from November 2023 to March 2025. Hisar police spokesperson Vikas Kumar said Malhotra admitted she stayed in touch with Danish. According to Hindustan Times, Danish was “developing her as an asset.” Later, Danish introduced her to a man named Ali Ahwan. He helped arrange her stay and meetings with Pakistani security officials Shakir and Rana Shahbaz.
She Hid Spy Contacts and Continued Messaging Them
The FIR said Malhotra saved Shakir’s contact as “Jatt Randhawa” to hide his identity. After returning to India, she kept in touch with these men through WhatsApp, Telegram, and Snapchat. She also met Danish several times at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi.
Officials Suspect a Larger Spy Network
The FIR revealed she was part of a wider spy ring. This network reportedly operates across Haryana and Punjab. It includes secret agents, informers, and those handling illegal funds. Investigators found several bank accounts under her name. They are now reviewing her financial records and travel logs. Hisar Superintendent of Police Shashank Kumar Sawan said during a press conference, “Her known income sources do not justify her foreign travel. We suspect external funding. On the surface, she was just a travel blogger.”
Police Arrest 11 More People
In the last two weeks, police in Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh arrested 11 more suspects. They were allegedly linked to the same spy network. Another YouTuber, named Guzala, was arrested from Punjab.
