The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan Yojana (PM-SYM) is a government-backed pension scheme for unorganised sector workers in India. Launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the scheme aims to provide financial security to workers after retirement, ensuring they receive a minimum assured pension once they reach the age of 60.
Under PM-SYM, subscribers pay a small monthly contribution, and the government contributes an equal amount. Upon reaching 60 years, beneficiaries are guaranteed a pension of ₹3,000 per month, providing a safety net in old age.
The scheme is specifically designed for workers in the unorganised sector, such as:
Street vendors
Rickshaw pullers
Construction laborers
Domestic workers
Small shop owners
Farmers and agricultural workers
Age: 18 to 40 years
Monthly income: Up to ₹15,000
Must not be a tax-paying salaried employee
Should not be enrolled in any other government pension scheme
Subscribing to the scheme is simple and can be done offline or online:

PM-SYM offers several advantages to unorganised sector workers:
Assured Pension: ₹3,000 per month after 60 years of age.
Affordable Contributions: Monthly payment as low as ₹55 depending on the age of enrollment.
Government Co-Contribution: The government contributes equally to your pension fund.
Family Security: In case of the subscriber’s death, the spouse continues to receive 50% of the pension.
Portable Across India: The scheme is linked to your Aadhaar, making it easy to continue contributions even if you move to another state.
In India, unorganised sector workers often lack social security, leaving them financially vulnerable after retirement. PM-SYM ensures:
Financial independence in old age
Reduced dependency on family
Protection against poverty and unexpected expenses
The scheme is part of the government’s broader initiative to improve the welfare of unorganised workers under programs like the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-Dhan and Atal Pension Yojana.
PM-SYM is a simple, affordable, and effective pension scheme for unorganised workers. By contributing a small amount monthly, workers can secure a guaranteed pension of ₹3,000 per month after 60 years, with the added support of the government. The scheme promotes financial stability, security, and dignity for India’s unorganised workforce.
