Mamata Banerjee and Junior Doctors meeting
Agitating junior doctors called off their strike across hospitals in West Bengal after a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. They were protesting the alleged rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
At least 17 junior doctors met Banerjee on Monday to discuss their demands, continuing their hunger strike over the incident. “In today’s meeting, we did get assurances, but the state government’s body language was not positive. Common people and the parents of our deceased sister have requested us to call off the strike due to our deteriorating health,” the doctors told PTI after the meeting.
The hunger strike, which lasted 15 days, was part of their call for justice and healthcare reform.
Protests had erupted across West Bengal following the alleged rape and murder of the trainee doctor in the seminar hall of the state-run RG Kar hospital on August 9.

During the meeting, West Bengal Congress President Subhankar Sarkar expressed hope that the issues would be resolved. The incident also sparked political tension, with the BJP demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
