Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed deep sorrow over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The attack killed and injured several innocent people, including tourists.
Netanyahu shared his condolences and extended full support to India in its fight against terrorism. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “My dear friend @narendramodi, I am deeply saddened by the barbaric terrorist attack in #Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that killed and injured dozens of innocents. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims & their families. Israel stands with India in its fight against terrorism.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Echoes Support
Following Netanyahu’s message, Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar also condemned the attack. He said Israel stands united with India against terrorism. In his post on X, Sa’ar stated, “Deeply saddened by the heinous terror attack on tourists in #Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families. Israel stands united with India in the fight against terror.”
Amit Shah Holds Emergency Security Meeting
Soon after the attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level security meeting with officials from all concerned agencies. Later that evening, Shah arrived in Srinagar to personally assess the situation.
He also updated Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the developments. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha were present during the security briefing.
Army and Police Launch Search Operation
In response to the attack, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police began a joint search operation in the Baisran area of Pahalgam, Anantnag district. Their main goal is to find and arrest those behind the shooting.
Chinar Corps Confirms Immediate Action
The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps posted details about their swift response on X. According to the update,
“On 22 April 2025, in a cowardly and heart-wrenching act of violence. The terrorists opened fire on innocent tourists and locals. In the immediate aftermath, Joint Forces will oversee the situation. Medical teams were swiftly mobilised and casualty evacuation commenced.”
They also shared that,
“In response to this senseless violence and the anguish caused to local sentiments, a candle march was organised in Sopore, Ganderbal, Handwara, Bandipora and other parts of Kashmir by the local populace. A Joint Search Operation has been launched by the #IndianArmy and @JmuKmrPolice in the general area of Baisran, Pahalgam, Anantnag. The search operation is currently in progress, with all efforts focused on bringing the attackers to justice.”
Public Outrage and Candlelight Protests
The attack has triggered strong reactions across India. Many political leaders have condemned the act of terror. Meanwhile, local residents in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including Sopore and Bandipora, came together to organise candle marches in memory of the victims.
