Watch: Frustrated by Potholes, Telangana Residents Plant Rice in Protest

To express their frustration with the deteriorating road conditions and large potholes, residents of Bowrampet in Quthbullapur, Telangana, organized a protest. They gathered near the water-filled potholes and began planting saplings in them.

According to Jist News, in a unique form of protest, the residents planted rice crops in the potholes to highlight the municipal commissioner and local authorities’ inadequate performance. The waterlogged and damaged roads have made daily commuting a challenge. This demonstration aimed to prompt immediate action.

A video of the protest was recorded and shared on social media. The footage shows people standing by the pothole, planting rice saplings one by one, while numerous onlookers watched in astonishment.

Recently, disheartened residents from various sectors of Greater Noida assembled outside the Greater Noida authority’s office to protest the numerous civic issues plaguing their neighborhoods. They threatened to lock up the authority’s office if their concerns were not addressed within two weeks.

Around 45 residents’ welfare groups (RWAs) united to voice their grievances regarding poor maintenance, flooded roads, lack of sanitation, sewer and drainage problems, and horticultural issues with officials. Responding to the protest, officials assured that public concerns would be investigated and addressed.

Alok Nagar, vice president of the Federation of Residents Welfare Association in Greater Noida, stated, “We have handed over a memorandum containing a list of issues being faced by residents. Among the issues which the authority has failed to address so far include improper garbage disposal, inflated water bills, poor road infrastructure, sewer and drainage, and horticulture-related issues, among others.”

The Greater Noida authority officials confirmed that these issues would be examined. “The claims of RWAs and residents are being investigated, and necessary action will be taken,” said Himanshu Verma, an officer on special duty in Greater Noida.
