“Viksit Bharat” is more than just a slogan: EAM Jaishankar

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized on Tuesday that “Viksit Bharat” is more than just a slogan; it signifies a serious commitment to India’s future. Speaking at a lecture at Hansraj College, New Delhi, Jaishankar urged the audience to recognize the significance of “Viksit Bharat,” stating, “Please don’t think it’s a slogan. It is something very serious that we are talking about.”

Looking ahead, Jaishankar focused on the future and discussed the next 25 years as India’s “Amrit Kaal,” or pivotal period. Expressing optimism, he remarked, “I can feel today that we are at the point of something very big. The world is also watching us. I see these 25 years as a period of new opportunities, new technologies, and new challenges.”

Discussing the transformative potential of technology, Jaishankar highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence and emerging technologies such as self-driven cars and drones. He emphasized India’s ambition, stating, “Indians don’t like to be number 2. But we would be the second largest economy in the world.”

Reflecting on India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jaishankar recalled how India, despite initial doubts, emerged as a leader in vaccine supply to numerous countries. He also noted India’s digital progress, citing the country’s high volume of digital transactions.

Jaishankar highlighted India’s progress in various sectors, including poverty reduction, infrastructure development, and initiatives like Make in India. He also touched upon diplomatic achievements, such as India’s proactive role during the Ukraine crisis and the inclusion of the African Union in the G20.

In conclusion, Jaishankar stressed the importance of cultural pride and India’s unique position in the changing global landscape.
