In a case of a one-sided love affair, a man slit the throat of an 18-year-old girl on Thursday at the Azamgarh railway station in Uttar Pradesh.
Police are still investigating whether a disagreement existed between the two as they exited a train from Mumbai at the Azamgarh station.
The 22-year-old man first slit the girl’s throat with a sharp weapon and then injured himself.
When the crime occurred, alarmed passengers called the neighbourhood police and scheduled an ambulance. The patient has been taken to a hospital for care.
The accused lives in Bilariaganj, while the girl lives in Jahanaganj.
The male, identified as Dhananjay Paswan, was in love with the woman, the Azamgarh City SP said. Other passengers attempted to apprehend the man after he slit the girl’s throat.
Further investigations are underway.
