Delhi is fully prepared to welcome US Vice President JD Vance as he begins his four-day official visit to India. The national capital has implemented heightened security measures, including mock drills, to ensure a seamless visit. Vance will be accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — during the trip.
The US delegation is scheduled to land at the Palam Airbase at 10 AM on Monday. Authorities have been actively working to make sure every aspect of the high-profile visit goes smoothly.
“We have already conducted mock drills according to the security protocol for the high level visit of the US vice president. Security has been tightened across different areas of Delhi to ensure that everything goes smoothly and no untoward incident happens during the visit,” a senior police officer told PTI.
In addition, the Delhi Traffic Police will manage roadways to ensure the Vice President’s convoy travels without any disruptions. “The Delhi Traffic Police will also ensure that traffic is clear and his travel across the capital happens without any problem,” the officer added.
Akshardham Temple, handicraft shopping planned for Day One
Soon after his arrival in Delhi, JD Vance and his family are expected to visit the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in the evening. The visit will be followed by a potential stop at a shopping complex featuring traditional Indian handicrafts, sources familiar with the itinerary told PTI.
Security teams have already carried out thorough checks at the temple premises. “We have conducted advance security liaisoning at the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple, which the US vice president will visit on Monday evening. We have thoroughly checked the premises and our teams will be deployed on the premises on the day of the visit too,” said the officer.
PM Modi to host JD Vance and family for a meal in Delhi
As part of the diplomatic engagements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to host the US Vice President and his family for a meal in Delhi. The two leaders last met during the AI Action Summit in Paris in February, where PM Modi interacted with Vance, his wife, and their two sons.
Visit to Jaipur and Agra to follow Delhi stop
Following the Delhi leg of the trip, JD Vance is scheduled to depart the capital on Monday night and continue his visit to Jaipur and Agra. The US Vice President’s tour of India is expected to highlight cultural diplomacy alongside strategic discussions.
