India US counter-terror assistance has increased pace following the Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in 26 casualties, who were predominantly tourists. With India doubling its effort in combating terror, the United States has assured New Delhi of its support in energy and resources. US House Speaker Mike Johnson pledged maximum support to India in its campaign against terrorism while Secretary of State Marco Rubio demanded that Pakistan lend a helping hand in investigating.
In the meantime, the Indian government has conducted civil defense mock exercises across the country to prepare against any future aggressive moves. The renewed alignment with the US also marks a new chapter in India’s counter-terror diplomacy across South Asia.

America Vows Complete Support to India
US House Speaker Mike Johnson issued a strong declaration at Capitol Hill. “India must resist terrorism,” he stated. “We will do everything we can to assist in those efforts.” Johnson affirmed the Trump administration’s pledge to assist India with energy and resources for its mission against terror.
High-Level Talks Reinforce Solidarity
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio last week called Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He asked India to maintain lines of communication open with Pakistan to avoid further escalation. Jaishankar emphasized that the people responsible for the Pahalgam attack need to be brought to justice. The US State Department followed up with the same message, saying Rubio was completely supportive of India’s struggle against extremism.
Pakistan Asked to Act in Investigation
The US has called upon Pakistan to cooperate fully with the probe. The attack, which has been blamed on Pakistan-based terrorists, has heightened international pressure on Islamabad. The international community now expects Pakistan to act openly and firmly.
In reaction, the Indian Home Ministry asked all the states to organize mock drills on Wednesday. The drills involve running air-raid sirens, sanitizing bunkers, training civilians, and routing out evacuation paths. The drills reflect India’s preparedness in addressing changing threats.
Change in Regional Counter-Terror Diplomacy
This episode marks a change in India’s strategic strategy. New Delhi now demands not just bilateral responsibility but also multilateral backing for terrorism. The robust US support provides leverage on Pakistan and enhances India’s international narrative on cross-border terror.
