Tripura Sundari Temple Prepares For Diwali As Lakhs Of Devotees Expected

The Tripura Sundari Temple, one of the revered 51 Shakti Pithas, is preparing for Diwali celebrations with decorations aimed at enhancing the festival’s fervor and welcoming lakhs of devotees. BJP MLA Abhishek Roy, who also serves as the Chairman of the Matabari Puja Committee, extended Diwali greetings and shared details of this year’s preparations.

“This year, we are enhancing the lighting decorations from Udaipur to Matabari, making the Matabari area beautifully illuminated. Both the fair and the Puja Aarti will be live-streamed, and displays from the ICA department will be expanded across the state so that everyone can witness the worship at the Tripura Sundari Temple,” he said. Roy added, “In Tripura, we celebrate Kali Puja during this occasion, and the Mata Tripura Sundari Devi Temple will also be hosting rituals. The fair will begin on October 31st and continue for three days.”

Roy also highlighted a 39-hour cultural program planned for the occasion, which will feature artists from outside Tripura. Chief Minister Manik Saha is set to inaugurate the fair on October 31. “A 39-hour cultural program is planned, featuring artists from outside the state as well. The fair will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Manik Saha at 5 pm on October 31 along with other ministers, and the Mangal arati will be held at the ghat. The fair committee and police administration will ensure strict monitoring to prevent any untoward incidents. Extra train services have been arranged for the fair,” Roy said.

Priest Tanmoy Chakraborty elaborated on the Diwali celebrations and shared details of the rituals and worship timings. “On October 31, Diwali, the temple will open after the Mangala Aarti at 4.30 am. The goddess worship will begin at 10.00 am after decorating her beautifully. The rituals will follow the same traditions as they have for years, with no changes made. The worship will continue as it has since the time of Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1500 AD. At 1.30 pm, an offering of food will be made to the goddess,” he said.

Earlier this week, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the homes of three potters in Kumar Para, a locality known for its skilled artisans who create earthen lamps. His visit coincided with the potters ramping up production ahead of Deepawali, a period when traditional earthen lamps see high demand. During his visit, CM Saha encouraged the potters and purchased lamps for his own Deepawali celebrations, emphasizing the importance of supporting local artisans. As Deepawali approaches, Saha extended his best wishes to the artisans and the people of Tripura, affirming his commitment to the vision of “One Tripura, One India, One Great India.”
