Tripura CM Saha expresses satisfaction with voter turnout in Phase 1 of Lok Sabha polls

Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, actively involved in election campaigns, emphasized democratic values and development-focused governance amidst the state’s electoral fervor. He highlighted elections as crucial for upholding democracy and underscored the need for fair, free, impartial, and peaceful elections, calling them a cornerstone of democratic celebration.

Saha expressed contentment with the voter turnout and praised the Election Commission for its readiness to address grievances promptly, ensuring a transparent polling process. He previously urged voters to prioritize development, peace, and unity, emphasizing the importance of supporting candidates dedicated to societal welfare.

Scheduled to campaign in Chailengta, Karamcherra, and Kamalpur on Saturday, Saha’s efforts align with the state’s festive election atmosphere. Tripura recorded the highest turnout at around 80.46%, with West Bengal following at 77.57%.

However, amidst Tripura’s high turnout, the INDIA bloc in Tripura has requested the Election Commission to cancel polls for the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency and Ramnagar assembly constituency due to alleged poll manipulation through booth jamming, intimidation, and proxy voting.

The first phase of Lok Sabha polls occurred on April 19, with the remaining six phases scheduled on different dates until June 1 to elect the 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. The election results are set to be announced on June 4.
