Trinamool Congress Leader Rajjak Khan Shot Dead in West Bengal
A local leader of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Rajjak Khan, was shot dead by unidentified attackers on Thursday night in West Bengal. The incident happened in the Chaltaberia Gram Panchayat area while Khan was on his way home.
According to Kolkata Police, the attack occurred around 9:45 pm near Siristala, under the Uttar Kashipur police station limits. Khan, a resident of Chak Maricha village, was targeted close to his home. Police told ANI, “Around 9.45 pm yesterday, one Rajjak Khan of Chak Maricha village, Chaltaberia Gram Panchayat was attacked by a few persons near Siristala under Uttar Kashipore PS while returning home.”
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
A report by India Today revealed that the attackers not only shot Khan but also used sharp weapons during the assault. This suggests that the murder was brutal and possibly premeditated. Police are currently investigating the motive and are trying to identify the suspects.
This killing comes just a week after another Trinamool Congress panchayat samiti leader was attacked in Cooch Behar district. In that case, Dipankar Roy, the son of BJP MLA Sukumar Roy, was named as one of the accused and was later arrested.
The two back-to-back attacks on TMC leaders have raised concerns about rising political violence in the state.
