Top Terrorists Behind IC-814 Hijack and Pulwama Attack Eliminated in Operation Sindoor: DGMO

As tensions between India and Pakistan grow, Indian military forces have targeted decisively across the border under Operation Sindoor, killing senior terrorists responsible for two of India’s most deadly terror attacks — the 1999 IC-814 hijacking and the 2019 Pulwama suicide bombing. The confirmation was made by Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, at a press conference on May 11.

India Kills High-Profile Terrorists

DGMO Lt Gen Ghai disclosed that Indian troops effectively neutralized terrorists involved in the IC-814 hijacking and the Pulwama attack. The operation was a part of a broader counter-offensive against terror camps along the Line of Control (LoC) and deep inside Pakistan’s territory.

On the evening of 9-10 May, they penetrated our airspace with drones and planes all along the borders and made largely unsuccessful forays to strike several military infrastructure. LoC violations by Pakistan also began once again and escalated into intense arty battles.,” Lt Gen Ghai explained the provocations that India retaliated against.

Pakistan Army Suffered Major Losses

India’s DGMO also informed that the Pakistan Army incurred heavy casualties in India’s retaliatory operations. Intelligence estimates, according to Lt Gen Ghai, suggest that Pakistan lost 35 to 40 military personnel between May 7 and May 10.

“Pakistan Army reported to have lost 35 to 40 personnel between May 7 and 10,” he said, highlighting the extent of the damage caused during the operation.

Drone and Airspace Violations by Pakistan

Pakistan made cross-border attacks with drones and aircraft, which put India on high alert and led to artillery firing. The target was Indian military infrastructure, but the DGMO stated those attacks did not significantly inflict any damage.

“They sent drones and planes into our airspace all along the borders.,” Lt Gen Ghai added, emphasizing the scope of the attempted incursion.

The Indian Army retaliated with accuracy and power, striking only at established terror hotbeds to minimize civilian casualties. These operations were within the overall strategic stance taken under Operation Sindoor, which aims to break up terror networks operating with impunity across the border.

The moves came in the aftermath of the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed Indian security personnel. Operation Sindoor was initiated immediately after, and drone strikes as well as pinpoint artillery fire wiped out terrorists and destroyed strategic infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied areas.

The operation represents one of the most aggressive and effective anti-terror responses by India in years, targeted against longstanding threats by groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba based in Pakistan.
