Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, heading an all-party Indian delegation, declared that India will not remain silent in the face of terrorism. Speaking at the 9/11 Memorial in New York, he called on the global community to unite in solidarity and strength against terror.
India Stands in Solidarity with Terror Victims
Tharoor emphasized that India, like the US, has repeatedly faced brutal terror attacks. He described the visit to the memorial as a “solemn reminder” of shared suffering and resilience. “We have come in a spirit of solidarity, and at the same time, on a mission,” he said.
Delegation to Visit Latin America After US Stop
The delegation will visit Guyana, Panama, Brazil, and Colombia after their US visit. Tharoor said they plan to explain how vital it is for nations to stand together against terrorism. He drew parallels with the US response to 9/11 and India’s reaction to the recent April 22 attack.
India Will Not Tolerate Repeat Attacks
Tharoor warned that India will not remain passive if similar attacks occur again. “This is not a time for indifference,” he said, urging the world to show collective strength and defend democratic values, freedom, diversity, and peaceful coexistence—principles he said the attackers reject.
Terror Perpetrators and Supporters Must Face Justice
Tharoor stressed that India will continue to pursue those responsible for the April 22 attack. He also called for accountability for those who provide training, funding, and shelter to terrorists. “We are not going to stop our hunt,” he declared.
UN Sanctions Insufficient Without Direct Action
He pointed out that about 52 individuals and organisations based in Pakistan had once been listed by the UN Sanctions Committee. However, he argued that diplomacy and sanctions aren’t enough. “We are also going to exercise our right to self-defence, which every country recognises,” he added.
Tharoor Urges Indian Diaspora to Amplify India’s Message
Tharoor asked the Indian diaspora in the US to help shape public and political opinion. “You are a very influential diaspora. You’re active in public life and politics. You’re a force multiplier for us,” he told them. He encouraged them to spread awareness about the threats India faces.
Delegation Represents National Unity Against Terror
The delegation includes MPs from across party lines: Shambhavi Chaudhary (LJP), Sarfaraz Ahmed (JMM), G M Harish Balayagi (TDP), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar K Lata (BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), and former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. The team aims to present India’s united stance and zero-tolerance policy on terrorism to the world.
