As compared to overseas markets, the Indian Model Y is priced much higher because of import duties and transportation costs.
Tesla has formally entered the Indian automobile sector with the roll-out of the Model Y SUV, priced at Rs 59.89 lakh for the rear-wheel drive (RWD) model. The company also launched a long-range RWD version at Rs 67.89 lakh. With additional expenses, the on-road price of the RWD version is Rs 61.07 lakh, and the long-range version will be Rs 69.15 lakh.
The on-road prices are inclusive of an "Administration and Service Fee" of Rs 50,000, which is 18% GST, as mentioned on Tesla's official website. Tesla also provides a range of customization options and add-ons so that the buyer can customize the car according to their needs. The most important upgrade is Tesla's Full-Self Driving (FSD) feature, which can be taken as an optional add-on for Rs 6 lakh extra.
As compared to overseas markets, the Indian Model Y is priced much higher because of import duties and transportation costs. The base Model Y in the U.S. begins at $44,990 (equivalent to Rs 38.63 lakh). In China, the price is 263,500 yuan (around Rs 31.57 lakh), and in Germany, it costs €45,970 (around Rs 46.09 lakh). These gaps render the Indian variant one of the priciest in the world.
Tesla is launching the RWD trim in India with two battery options—a 60 kWh pack and a bigger 75 kWh battery. The single motor RWD version produces about 295 horsepower. The 60 kWh battery is expected to provide a WLTP range of 500 km, while the long-range version that features the 75 kWh pack offers an increased range of 622 km on a single charge.
Indian customers will have the choice of seven exterior colors and two interior trim finishes. Tesla has made sure there is a high-end experience through details such as:
All these are designed to provide luxury, comfort, and high-tech convenience in a sleek, minimalist design.
