Terrorist behind Doda Attacks Trapped In Kokernag Anantnag, Operation Continues

A group of terrorists responsible for recent attacks in Doda has been cornered in Kokernag, Anantnag. The group, consisting of 4-5 terrorists, moved to Kokernag after facing intensified operations from security forces in Doda.

The ongoing encounter has led to the martyrdom of two Indian Army jawans and injuries to two civilians. The operation to neutralize the terrorists is still underway.

Intelligence reports on August 5 confirmed that these terrorists, involved in the July attacks in Doda, had crossed into the Kapran Garol area of South Kashmir. A significant attack occurred on July 18 when terrorists ambushed an Army patrol party in Desa, Doda, killing four Army jawans, including an officer. Since then, the Rashtriya Rifles and J&K Police have been on a relentless pursuit. Operations were launched on the night of August 9-10 in the mountainous region east of Kapran, where the terrorists were believed to be hiding.

At approximately 1400 hours on August 10, suspicious activity prompted an immediate response. The terrorists fired recklessly, injuring two Army personnel and two civilians. The backgrounds of the injured civilians are under investigation. The high-altitude terrain, characterized by thick undergrowth and rugged features, presents considerable challenges. Security forces are progressing cautiously and will continue their efforts through the night to apprehend the remaining terrorists.
