Weeks after a 15-year-old schoolboy from Kochi, Kerala died by suicide, his mother came forward with grave allegations of ragging that she claims pushed him to take the extreme step. In an Instagram statement, Rajna PM alleged that her son, Mihir Ahammed, was subjected to physical assault, verbal abuse, and humiliation, including being forced to lick a toilet seat.
While the police have registered the case as suicide, Mihir’s mother has urged Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the state police chief for an urgent and unbiased investigation. Mihir reportedly died on January 15 after jumping from the 26th floor of his apartment in Thripunithara, just an hour after returning from school.
“After his death, my husband and I started gathering information to understand why Mihir took such a drastic step. Through conversations with his friends, schoolmates, and by reviewing social media messages, we unearthed the horrific reality of what he had been going through. Mihir was subjected to brutal ragging, bullying, and physical assault by a gang of students at school and on the school bus,” his mother stated.
“The evidence that we collected presents such a horrific picture. Mihir was continuously beaten, verbally abused, and compelled to experience unimaginable humiliation even on his last day. He was dragged to the washroom; he was directed to lick the toilet seat, and he was made to push his head into the toilet with it flushing.”
She further alleged that Mihir was bullied for his skin color. “They didn’t end the cruelty even after his death. A shocking chat screenshot reveals the extent of their cruelty. They messaged ‘fxxk ni*ga he actually died’ and celebrated his death,” she wrote.
Allegations Against School
Rajna PM also alleged that Mihir’s friends created an Instagram page called Justice for Mihir to campaign for accountability, which has since been removed apparently because of pressure from the school. She claimed the school intimidated students to silence the truth.
“When I presented evidence and lodged demands for accountability, the school authorities merely told me that the information had been sent to the police. She claims they are trying to hush up the incidents to protect the reputation of the school.
She has mailed a letter to the Chief Minister’s office and has also lodged a complaint with Kerala’s Director General of Police, fearing that if this case drags on, the perpetrators will bring in IT experts to wipe out digital evidence. She has also lodged a complaint with the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
As Mathrubhumi reported, the chairman of the child rights commission confirmed that the panel has noticed the case. Rajna even accused the school’s vice-principal of harassing Mihir.
Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty ordered a detailed probe into the case, according to Mathrubhumi.
Stars Outrage Over the Incident
Many celebrities came out and slammed the tragic incident. Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu said, “It’s 2025. And yet, we’ve lost another bright young life, snuffed out because a few individuals, filled with hate and venom pushed someone to the brink!!
She summed up by saying that Mihir’s case reminds us that bullying and ragging are not ‘sacred’ traditions but a way of violence—psychological, emotional, and physical. “We have stringent anti-ragging laws apparently, yet our students continue to suffer in silence, afraid to speak up, afraid of consequences, afraid that no one will listen. Where are we failing?”, she questioned.
Actor Prithviraj Sukumaran also tweeted expressing anxiety, “Parents, homes, teachers, schools, Empathy is lesson no. 1.” Keerthy Suresh to, “Heart-wrenching : If ragging starts in school and a group of kids has tortured a boy to the extent that he took his own life, what a shame! Can’t stop thinking of this grieving mother and her family.
The case has sparked wide-ranging outrage and further intensified demands for stricter measures against bullying and ragging in schools.
