Former Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi passed away on Monday following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Chaudhary paid tribute to him on social media, acknowledging Sushil Kumar Modi’s significant contribution to Bihar and describing his loss as irreparable.
Last month, Sushil Modi had announced his inability to participate in the BJP’s campaign for the Lok Sabha elections due to his illness. He shared his health condition on social media, expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reaffirming his dedication to the nation, Bihar, and the party.
Beginning his political journey as a student activist at Patna University, Sushil Kumar Modi held various positions over three decades, including MLA, MLC, and member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. He served as Bihar’s deputy chief minister from 2005 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2020.
Modi’s political career started in 1990 when he became an MLA from Patna Central constituency and was appointed as the chief whip of the BJP legislature party. He also served as the leader of the opposition in the state assembly from 1996 to 2004. In 2004, he became a member of Lok Sabha from Bhagalpur.
