The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted bail to K Kavitha, a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, had been in custody since March 15.
During the hearing, the Supreme Court criticized the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for their handling of the investigation. The court questioned the agencies on the nature of their probe and expressed concerns about the prolonged detention of Kavitha.
K Kavitha’s arrest and subsequent detention had been a point of contention, drawing significant attention and sparking political debates. With the court’s decision to grant her bail, she is expected to be released soon, pending further proceedings in the case.
