New Delhi, Aug 3: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah should come to Parliament and respond to the issues of the alleged donation bezzlement at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and the alleged police excesses against protesting students in Delhi.
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament premises, Kharge said that both the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were unwilling to appear in Parliament.
He alleged that instead of answering questions in the House, the Prime Minister was posting Instagram reels about forgiving children.
Kharge asserted that it was actually the Prime Minister who should apologise, claiming that his government had ordered lathi charges and the use of pellet guns against peacefully protesting students.
The Congress President said that since the Parliament session began, the Prime Minister had not been attending the House.
Calling it an insult to democracy and the people, he said that when Parliament debates important issues, it is the government’s responsibility to remain accountable to the House and answer questions.
He alleged that the Modi government had remained silent on the issue of the alleged donation embezzlement at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
He said the Opposition had consistently raised issues such as rising unemployment, inflation, and the deteriorating education system, but instead of responding, the government was trying to intimidate students.
He described this as a threat to democracy.
Objecting strongly to students protesting for their rights being labelled as “traitors,” Kharge said that innocent students were not anti-national.
He asserted, “The real traitors were those who were undermining democracy.”
He further alleged that protesting students were being questioned about their sources of income and that their parents were being threatened.
He claimed that while the government was intimidating students, the RSS itself was allegedly not registered.
Earlier on Monday morning, MPs from the Congress and other Opposition parties staged a strong protest in the Parliament complex over the alleged crackdown on students and the alleged theft of offerings at the Ram Temple.
The protest was attended by Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and several senior Opposition leaders.
The MPs held a large placard reading: “Why is Amit Shah missing from Parliament?”
