Soon, exploration for natural gas and crude oil to begin on bank of Brahmaputra: Oil India Limited

Oil India Limited is currently engaged on the exploration for crude oil and natural gas along the northern bank of the Brahmaputra in Assam.”There are many areas in the northern bank of the Brahmaputra in Assam where exploration for crude oil and natural gas will be started,” Oil India Ltd CMD Ranjit Rath said on Monday. “Oil India Limited has plans for it and they include these regions. We have collected seismic data, according to Oil India Limited’s CMD.The Assam government and Oil India Limited signed the deeds for two open acreage licencing policy (OALP) blocks in February of this year.The area under block AS-ONHP-2021/2, measuring 2445.30 sq. km, falls in Barpeta, Nalbari, Baksa and Kamrup districts, whereas block AS-ONHP-2021/3, measuring 1840.87 sq. km, is spread in Udalguri, Kamrup and Darrang districts of the state.

The CMD of Oil India Limited stated that exploration is being done in Arunachal Pradesh while speaking with the media in Guwahati on Monday.”Lots of discussions are going on for Nagaland and when the issues will be sorted out, we will immediately start our works,” Ranjit Rath said.

On the other hand, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) Managing Director Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan said that, along with other parts Myanmar has been on their radar.”The Sagaing province of Myanmar is a very potenital area and around 30 lakh people living there. We have a clear strategy for visiting the location and open up retail outlets there. Plan is still in place. “The plan had been delayed by the regime change,” Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan stated. 10% of India’s total oil production and 8% of its gas production are contributed by Oil India Limited.

With Mission 4 plus, Oil India Limited has targeted to produce 4 MMT of crude oil and 5000 MMSCM of natural gas in FY24.
