“Society Will Perish If Population Growth Rate Falls Below 2.1”: RSS Chief Warns of Societal Decline

In a recent address at the ‘Kathale Kul (clan) Sammelan’ in Nagpur, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Chief Mohan Bhagwat emphasized the critical importance of family and population growth for societal survival. He asserted that if a society’s population growth rate falls below 2.1, it is destined to perish.

Bhagwat highlighted that families are fundamental units of society

Bhagwat highlighted that families are fundamental units of society, stating, “Decreasing population is a matter of concern because the Loksankhya Shastra says that if we go below 2.1, then that society perishes; no one will destroy it, it will perish by itself.” He referred to the population policy established in India around 1998 or 2002, which stipulates that the population growth rate should not dip below 2.1.

The RSS chief further argued for a higher target, suggesting that a growth rate of three is necessary for societal sustainability. “This number is important because it (society) should survive,” he concluded, reinforcing the need for a robust population growth strategy.
