Aam Aadmi Party leader and ex-Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, approached a court in the national capital on Thursday, requesting interim bail for campaigning in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Sisodia, currently in judicial custody regarding the alleged Delhi excise policy scam case, has applied to the Rouse Avenue Court for interim bail to participate in poll campaigning. Previously, the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) countered Sisodia’s regular bail plea, asserting that the prosecution had not caused any delays; instead, it was the accused who had caused delays by submitting frivolous applications in the Delhi Excise Policy case.
The primary argument presented by Manish Sisodia’s counsel centered on the trial’s delay. They contended that the proceedings were progressing at an exceedingly slow pace. Consequently, Sisodia’s judicial custody has been extended until April 18.
The former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9, 2023, in relation to the excise policy case. Prior to this, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested him on February 26, 2023, due to his purported involvement in the case.
Sisodia tendered his resignation from the Delhi cabinet on February 28 of the preceding year.
