Shimla: Former CM Thakur visits rain, flood-hit areas

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur paid a visit to the hill state’s rain and flood-ravaged Shimla district on Sunday.

The Himachal Pradesh Minister paid a visit to the flood-ravaged district’s rural Kotkhai, Jubbal, and Rohru areas, which are also the hub of Shimla’s apple production. The monsoon has claimed 187 lives in Himachal Pradesh since it began on June 24, according to the State Disaster Management Authority on Saturday.

According to HPSDMA, 34 individuals have gone missing so far, and 215 have been injured. In the state, 702 dwellings have been damaged, with an additional 7161 houses partially affected. Due to the rain and floods, 241 stores and 2218 cow stalls have been damaged.

“So far a loss of 5620.22 crores rupees has been estimated. There have been 72 incidents of landslides in the state besides 52 incidents of flash floods,” HPSDMA said.

Over 650 roads, including three major motorways, have been closed. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, had stated that the state has experienced the worst rain and flood disasters in the last 75 years.

He further stated that the state’s loss owing to rain-related disasters could reach 8,000 crore rupees. The Chief Minister stated that the Union Government must provide quick financial assistance.
