Security forces gunned down one terrorist during an ongoing Joint Search Operation in the Kowut area of Kupwara. Acting on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police launched the operation in the days leading up to July 23.
On July 24, vigilant troops observed suspicious movement and challenged it. In response, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire. During the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was eliminated, and a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) was injured.
The operation is still in progress, with security forces continuing their efforts neutralised other terrorist hiding in the forest area. Further updates are awaited.
