SC dismisses plea to postpone NEET PG 2024

Supreme Court dismissed the plea to postpone the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test postgraduate examination (NEET PG) on Friday.  

On 6th July the National Board of Examination announced that the NEET-PG 2024 examination will took place on August 11 which was previously scheduled for June 23. 

A Bench led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud, along with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, declined to postpone the NEET PG exam just days before it is scheduled, stating that rescheduling the exam at this stage is not feasible. The Court emphasized that the exam, slated to be held on August 11, involves 2 lakh students, and postponing it based on a petition from just 50 candidates would be unfair.

Senior Advocate Sanjay Hegde, representing the petitioners, argued for rescheduling due to the split exam sessions and concerns over normalizing scores. However, the Court dismissed the petition, noting that the careers of a large number of candidates would be disrupted if the exam were delayed.

The plea, filed by Vishal Soren through advocate Anas Tanwir, highlighted difficulties faced by candidates in reaching their exam centers, which were allocated in inconvenient locations on short notice. The petition also raised concerns about the unknown formula for score normalization due to the exam being conducted in two batches. Despite these concerns, the Court upheld its decision to proceed with the exam as planned.
