S Jaishankar Celebrates Diwali at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in London, Highlights India’s Economic Growth

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar, who is on a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom, observed Diwali by praying at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (Neasden Temple) in London. Outside the temple, he underlined India’s position as the world’s fastest-growing major economy, lauding its leadership, vision, and good governance.

Speaking to the media, EAM Jaishankar highlighted the positive image of India, attributing it to the efforts of the people in Bharat and their contributions to everyday life. He expressed gratitude on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and noted India’s successful G20 presidency under challenging circumstances.

The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Europe’s first authentic Hindu temple, welcomed Jaishankar and his wife, Kyoko Jaishankar, who took part in the Diwali Abhishek Puja.

During his visit, EAM Jaishankar stressed the significance of cultural connections in bilateral relations and underscored the importance of fostering shared political and economic interests. His meetings included a discussion with UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, where he conveyed PM Modi’s Diwali wishes, presenting a Lord Ganesha statue and a cricket bat signed by Virat Kohli.

Taking to X, EAM Jaishankar expressed his delight at calling on PM Sunak on Diwali Day, thanking him and his wife, Akshata Murty, for their warm reception and gracious hospitality.

With a developing bilateral cooperation, India and the United Kingdom launched a Comprehensive Strategic cooperation in 2021, as expressed in the India-UK Roadmap 2030. The continuing discussions for a free trade deal underscore the two nations’ stronger relations.

Jaishankar’s visit to the UK, which concludes on November 15, seeks to strengthen cordial ties and offer new momentum to India and the United Kingdom’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
