Union Minister Anurag Thakur is demanding apologies from senior Congress leaders, including former party president Sonia Gandhi, in response to recent statements made by Congress leader Charanjit Singh Channi.
Channi alleged that the recent Poonch terror attack was “pre-planned” and questioned the motives behind India’s past wars in 1962, 1965, and 1971. Thakur criticized these statements as “ridiculous” and urged Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi to apologize for undermining the credibility of India’s armed forces.
Additionally, Thakur criticized Rahul Gandhi for reportedly meeting with Chinese diplomats during the Doklam standoff, raising concerns about his actions while Indian soldiers were actively responding to Chinese aggression. Thakur called on Rahul Gandhi to clarify his actions to the nation.
In response to Channi’s accusation that the Poonch terror attack was orchestrated to benefit the BJP in elections, BJP leader Rahul Sinha accused Congress of politicizing the incident to divert attention from their anticipated electoral defeat. Sinha questioned the timing of such remarks and accused Congress of resorting to diversionary tactics.
The Poonch terror attack resulted in the tragic death of an Indian Air Force soldier and injuries to four others. Security measures have been heightened in the region following the attack, which occurred just before the Lok Sabha elections in the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency for the 2024 general elections.
These elections in Jammu and Kashmir are part of a phased process spanning from April 19 to May 20, while the nationwide Lok Sabha elections are being conducted in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.
