Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort on Thursday, emphasized reviving the ancient spirit of Nalanda University, aiming to position India as a global hub for education by promoting higher learning and research. He highlighted the significance of the newly rebuilt Nalanda University in Bihar, which has resumed operations, and expressed his vision for India’s education system under the new education policy.
“We must rekindle the centuries-old Nalanda spirit to breathe new life into the world’s knowledge traditions,” PM Modi stated. He emphasized the goal of developing an education system in India that not only prevents Indian youth from needing to study abroad but also attracts international students to Indian institutions.
The Prime Minister also called on the nation to work towards making India a developed nation by 2047, recalling the courage and dedication of 40 crore Indians who fought for freedom before independence. He urged the 140 crore Indians of today to unite in achieving the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047” through self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat).
In June, PM Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University in Rajgir, marking it as the beginning of a “Golden Age” for India. He described Nalanda as more than just a name but a symbol of enduring knowledge, despite challenges. The revival of Nalanda, he said, will showcase India’s capabilities to the world.
This Independence Day marks PM Modi’s 11th address from the Red Fort, making him the third Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi to achieve this milestone. The theme for this year’s celebration, ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047,’ reflects the government’s commitment to transforming India into a developed nation by 2047.
