In a significant advance for a case that shook the nation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has apprehended a key individual linked to the devastating Red Fort area car bomb blast. The arrest is being seen as a critical step in untangling the web of conspiracy behind the terror attack that resulted in a tragic loss of 13 lives and several injuries.

Who Was Arrested?

The NIA arrested Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir. But who is he in the context of this investigation? Amir is not the man who detonated the bomb. Instead, authorities identify him as a crucial conspirator who worked with the suicide bomber. His primary alleged role was to facilitate the purchase of the very car that was transformed into a vehicle-borne Improvised Explosive Device (IED). The car was registered in his name, putting him at the center of the search for questioning.

Identity of the Suicide Bomber Revealed

A pressing question since the attack has been: who was behind the wheel? The NIA has forensically established the identity of the deceased driver. He is Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama District in Jammu and Kashmir. In a startling revelation, the agency confirmed that Nabi was an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad. This detail adds another complicated layer to the profile of the person behind the attack.

What Does the Investigation Uncover So Far?

The NIA’s investigation has been detailed and wide-ranging. The agency has taken another vehicle owned by the late professor Umar Un Nabi and is checking it for clues. The probe now covers a large circle, with officers already questioning 73 people, including several injured in the November 10 blast. This careful evidence-gathering is key to building a strong case.

Is the Conspiracy Larger Than It Seems?

The arrest of Amir Rashid Ali is a big step forward, but the case is far from over. The NIA is chasing several leads to uncover what it calls the “larger conspiracy” behind the blast. The agency is working closely with police teams from Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, along with other agencies. This joint effort suggests the plot may stretch beyond the site of the attack.
