Ramdas Soren, Jharkhand’s Education Minister, Passes Away at 62

Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren death has left the state in deep shock. He died on Friday at the age of 62. He had been admitted to a private hospital in Delhi since August 2. He was airlifted from Jamshedpur after he slipped and fell in the bathroom of his residence. His condition remained critical, and he was kept on life support but despite efforts by a multidisciplinary team of senior doctors, he did not survive. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed his grief, calling the loss heartbreaking. Ramdas Soren’s journey from gram pradhan to state education minister remains an inspiring political story.

Treatment and Hospitalization in Delhi

Doctors admitted Ramdas Soren to a private hospital in Delhi after his fall at his Jamshedpur residence. He was brought to the capital on August 2 in an air ambulance. Specialists from multiple fields monitored his health round the clock. They provided intensive medical care and support. However, his condition continued to worsen. Party spokesperson Kunal Sarangi confirmed his death on Friday and said the state had lost a senior leader.

Hemant Soren’s Condolence

Chief Minister Hemant Soren paid his last respects through an emotional post on X. He wrote, “Ramdas Da should not have left us like this. Last greetings to Dada.” His message reflected not only a political loss but also a personal bond. Party workers and supporters of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha joined the CM in mourning. The death has created a huge void in the Hemant Soren-led cabinet.

Political Journey of Ramdas Soren

Ramdas Soren was born on January 1, 1963, in Ghorabandha village in East Singhbhum district. He began his political journey as gram pradhan of Ghorabanda panchayat whereas his rise in state politics reflected his strong grassroots connection and he became one of the most influential leaders of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha. He served as education minister in the Hemant Soren cabinet. In the 2024 assembly elections, he won the Ghatshila seat for the third time. He defeated BJP candidate Babulal Soren, son of former chief minister Champai Soren and his win underlined his strong base in East Singhbhum.
