Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Bihar and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi revealed on Wednesday that he has been fighting cancer for the past six months, leading him to withdraw from the upcoming Lok Sabha election 2024.
“In the last 6 months, I have been battling cancer. Now I feel it’s time to inform the people. I won’t be able to participate in the Lok Sabha elections,” he shared in Hindi on X (formerly known as Twitter).
“I have shared everything with the PM. Always grateful and committed to the nation, Bihar, and the party,” he further stated.
The 72-year-old previously served as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar from 2005 to 2013 and from 2017 to 2020.
As reported by The Indian Express earlier, Modi holds significance as a prominent figure from the 1974-75 JP (Jayaprakash Narayan) Movement. Originating from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad background, he ventured into politics in the 1980s.
