Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will inaugurate the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow today. According to his office, the virtual inauguration will take place around 11 am.
A post from his office on X stated, “At around 11.00 AM today, 11th May, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh will virtually inaugurate the BrahMos Aerospace Integration and Testing Facility in Lucknow.”
Foundation Laid in 2021
Earlier, on December 26, 2021, Singh had laid the foundation stone for both the Defence Technology & Test Centre (DTTC) and the BrahMos Manufacturing Centre. These are projects by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
First-of-Its-Kind Defence Centre
The DTTC is the first facility of its kind and spans nearly 22 acres. It aims to boost defence and aerospace manufacturing within the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor (UP DIC).
BrahMos Manufacturing Centre to Build Next-Gen Missiles
The BrahMos Manufacturing Centre is a modern facility set up by BrahMos Aerospace. Located in the Lucknow node of UP DIC, it covers over 200 acres. This centre will build the BrahMos-NG (Next Generation) missiles, continuing the legacy of the current BrahMos weapon system.
Support for Innovation and Industry
The DTTC was launched under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between UPEIDA and DRDO during DefExpo 2020. Both Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present during the signing.
This centre will feature six subcentres and offer a centralised advanced tech infrastructure. It will help defence companies reduce the time required to develop and launch new products. Moreover, it will help startups and industries access DRDO’s patents and technologies.
The DTTC aims to strengthen the Ease of Doing Business, support self-reliance in defence (AtmaNirbhar Bharat), and promote innovation in the UP DIC.
BrahMos: A Symbol of India-Russia Partnership
The BrahMos supersonic cruise missile system is one of the world’s most successful defence projects. India and Russia developed it together as part of their strategic partnership.
Known as the world’s fastest and most accurate cruise missile, BrahMos has boosted India’s defence capabilities in the 21st century. Designed by BrahMos Aerospace, a joint India-Russia venture, the missile has earned a reputation for being highly reliable and versatile.
BrahMos-NG to Strengthen Future Combat Power
To build on the success of BrahMos, the company is now working on BrahMos-NG, a lighter, smarter, and more compact version. This missile will be deployable on a wide range of platforms—land, air, sea, and even underwater.
In the coming years, BrahMos-NG is expected to enhance India’s military power by offering more flexibility and quicker deployment across modern combat environments.
