Rajib Bhattacharjee Named BJP Candidate For Tripura’s Rajya Sabha Bypoll

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has chosen its Tripura state president, Rajib Bhattacharjee, as the candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha bypoll in the state. This nomination comes as Bhattacharjee continues to rise within the party ranks, demonstrating his long-term dedication and service.

Party Announces Nominations Across States

In a recent notification, BJP national general secretary Arun Singh announced several nominations for Rajya Sabha bypolls across the country. Mission Ranjan Das and Rameswar Teli have been appointed for Assam, Manan Kumar Mishra for Bihar, Kiran Choudhary for Haryana, George Kurian for Madhya Pradesh, Dhairyashil Patil for Maharashtra, Mamata Mohanta for Odisha, and Sardar Ravneet Singh Bittu for Rajasthan. Rajib Bhattacharjee has been nominated for Tripura.

A Low-Profile Leader with a Strong Foundation

Unlike many senior figures in the BJP-led government, Rajib Bhattacharjee has largely maintained a low profile throughout his political career. His journey began in 1988 when he became a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist. Three years later, in 1991, he joined the BJP and steadily climbed the ranks.

Bhattacharjee has held various organizational roles, including local worker, Mandal president in Banamalipur, general secretary of the Sadar district, treasurer of the state committee, and vice-president. His dedication and hard work culminated in his appointment as Tripura’s BJP chief in 2022, shortly after Dr. Manik Saha succeeded Biplab Kumar Deb as Chief Minister.

Building Strong Relationships Within the Party

Initially considered a close aide of former Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Bhattacharjee has successfully fostered a strong relationship with the current CM, Dr. Manik Saha. The Chief Minister has credited Bhattacharjee for his efforts in mobilizing party workers during key elections, including the 2023 assembly elections and the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

Recent Election Performance

Rajib Bhattacharjee also served as the chairman of the Tripura Khadi and Village Industries Board. In the 2023 assembly elections, he contested from Banamalipur, a constituency that was once a stronghold of Biplab Kumar Deb. However, he narrowly lost to Congress veteran Gopal Chandra Roy by 1,369 votes.

With his nomination for the Rajya Sabha bypoll, Bhattacharjee’s political journey continues, reflecting his enduring commitment to the BJP and its mission in Tripura.
