In a significant move, Bhajanlal Sharma, the Chief Minister of Rajasthan, along with his nominated Deputy Chief Ministers, Prem Chand Bairwa and Diya Kumari, met Governor Kalraj Mishra in Jaipur to assert their claim to form the government.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominated Bhajanlal Sharma, a first-time MLA representing the Sanganer assembly constituency, for the position of Chief Minister in Rajasthan. Hailing from Bharatpur in Rajasthan’s eastern district, Sharma is known to have solid support from the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). A seasoned politician, he currently holds the position of the BJP’s state general secretary and possesses a master’s degree in political science.
Sharma secured an impressive victory in the Sanganer assembly seat, obtaining 145,162 votes, substantially surpassing his Indian National Congress (INC) rival, Pushpendra Bhardwaj, who secured 97,081 votes.
Joining Sharma, Prem Chand Bairwa, the incumbent BJP MLA from Dudu constituency, clinched victory in the 2023 Rajasthan Assembly Election by defeating Congress candidate Babulal Nagar with a substantial margin of 35,743 votes.
Diya Kumari emerged victorious from the Vidyadhar Nagar constituency, defeating Congress’ Sitaram Agarwal with an impressive margin of 71,368 votes.
The election results in Rajasthan were a stark departure from the predictions made by certain pollsters, with the BJP poised to establish the government by securing 115 seats, while the Congress lagged with 69 seats.
The Rajasthan elections took place for 199 out of the 200 assembly seats on November 25, with the majority mark set at 100 seats for a win.
