Punjab CM Mann Highlights State’s Key Role in India’s Freedom Struggle

On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann delivered a heartfelt message, emphasizing Punjab’s significant contribution to India’s freedom struggle and its continued role in nation-building.

Reflecting on the sacrifices made by Punjabis, CM Mann said, “The contribution of Punjabis in the fight for independence has been unparalleled. Countless martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Lala Lajpat Rai, and Madan Lal Dhingra laid down their lives to free our nation.” He also noted the profound impact of partition on the state, stating that while the rest of the country celebrated independence, Punjab endured immense suffering. “Millions were killed during this time, but Punjab showed its resilience and defended the nation by sacrificing its sons at the borders,” he added.

Mann lauded Punjab’s role in ensuring food security during critical periods in the nation’s history. “When the country was on the brink of famine, Punjab stepped up and provided grain to the entire nation, helping it recover from the crisis,” he remarked.

Addressing current challenges, the Chief Minister outlined his government’s efforts to tackle the state’s water crisis. “We have initiated steps to revive old canals and ensure the supply of agricultural water to villages. The Malwa Canal project, the first canal to be constructed in Punjab after independence, will be 149 kilometers long and run from Harike Pattan to the Rajasthan border,” he said.

On youth employment, Mann emphasized the government’s commitment to creating job opportunities through transparent recruitment processes in government departments. He also highlighted the establishment of the SSF (Road Safety Force) as part of initiatives to enhance infrastructure and road safety.

The Chief Minister underlined the importance of Independence Day as a time to honor the sacrifices of martyrs and renew the commitment to fulfilling their dreams. He urged the youth to learn about the contributions of freedom fighters and adopt their ideals, quoting Shaheed Bhagat Singh: “Love is everyone’s birthright, so why not make the land of our nation our beloved this time?”

Paying tribute to the nation’s martyrs, Mann concluded, “It is because of their sacrifices that we live in a free and democratic country today. Those who love their land are the greatest of all.”
