Prime Minister Modi Opens 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024 in Gujarat

On Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 4th Global Renewable Energy Investor’s Meet (RE-INVEST) 2024 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The three-day conference, hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), is expected to attract over 10,000 delegates, including prominent figures from government, industry, and finance.

The event saw the presence of several key figures, including Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, and Chief Ministers from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Goa.

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership in advancing India’s position as a global leader in renewable energy. Joshi highlighted how Modi’s role as Gujarat’s Chief Minister was crucial in the state’s rise as a leader in green energy, and how, as Prime Minister, Modi has further championed clean energy on a global scale.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel also lauded Modi’s contributions, noting that Gujarat has become a leader in renewable energy under his guidance. Patel emphasized that Gujarat’s renewable energy capacity exceeds 50,000 megawatts, with renewable sources making up 54% of the state’s energy capacity. He also mentioned the state’s ambitious goal to produce 3 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually, positioning Gujarat as a key player in India’s green energy sector.

The central theme of RE-INVEST 2024, “Mission 500 GW,” highlights India’s strategic goal to significantly expand its renewable energy capacity by 2030. India, currently the fourth-largest global player in installed renewable energy capacity, aims to solidify its leadership in the global energy transition.

International partners for this year’s event include Australia, Denmark, Germany, and Norway, while Indian states such as Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh will actively participate. High-level delegations from the US, UK, Belgium, the EU, Oman, UAE, Singapore, and Hong Kong will also attend, with some led by ministers from Germany and Denmark.

The conference features an extensive agenda with 44 sessions, including a Chief Ministerial Plenary, a CEO Roundtable, and discussions on renewable energy innovations. Notable sessions will cover the role of women in energy transitions and provide a platform for start-ups, including pitches by the winners of the Solar X Challenge.

Prime Minister Modi also visited an exhibition organized alongside RE-INVEST 2024 at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, showcasing contributions from the public and private sectors, state governments, and start-ups. The event features networking opportunities facilitated by a dedicated B2B digital platform for business-to-business, business-to-government, and government-to-government interactions. The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is supporting the event as the industry partner.

RE-INVEST’s inaugural edition was held in February 2015 in New Delhi, followed by editions in October 2018 in Delhi NCR, and a virtual edition in November 2020.
