President Droupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Raaj Kumar Anand, former Delhi Minister, effective immediately, following the advice of Delhi’s Chief Minister. The official statement confirming this acceptance was released on Tuesday.
Anand, who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and his ministerial position in April, cited corruption within the party as his reason for stepping down. His resignation came in the wake of a Directorate of Enforcement (ED) raid in November last year, investigating his alleged involvement in the liquor policy scam. The ED conducted raids on nine premises linked to Anand, including his official residence.
Elected to the Delhi assembly in 2020, Raaj Kumar Anand represented the Patel Nagar constituency and held several key portfolios in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet, such as Social Welfare, SC and ST, Gurudwara elections, and Registrar of Cooperative Societies. Before his political career with AAP, Anand was a businessman and was notably active in the 2011 Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption movement, often seen alongside Kejriwal.
