Power Outage Disrupts Terminal 3 At Delhi Airport, Services Restored Swiftly

A power outage occurred at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Monday, briefly impacting check-in and boarding facilities. The incident took place around 2 p.m. when a significant voltage spike was detected, reportedly caused by the tripping of a 765KV line. This voltage imbalance affected all IGI terminals, disrupting baggage acceptance and e-gates, according to a spokesperson from Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL).

In response, DIAL swiftly switched all terminals to diesel generator (DG) load to maintain essential services. The airport’s power backup system, installed by DIAL, was activated within minutes, and all necessary backup procedures were initiated to assist passengers at various touchpoints.

By 3 p.m., the grid voltage had stabilized and was accepted at the Main Receiving Sub-station (MRSS) breaker. All services were then smoothly transitioned back from DG load to the Delhi Transco Limited (DTL) grid load, and the DG supply was disconnected. The DIAL official expressed gratitude to passengers for their patience and understanding during the brief disruption.

Despite the power outage, flight operations remained unaffected, ensuring minimal inconvenience to travelers.
