Flight operations at Chennai Airport in Tamil Nadu were affected on Monday morning due to foggy conditions, which impaired visibility. Air India published a notice on its official X account urging passengers to check their flight status prior to traveling to the airport.
“Reduced visibility may influence flight operations to and from Chennai as well as some cities in Southern India, such as Tirupati and Tiruchirapalli. Please verify your flight status before departing for the airport,” Air India stated.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has not released any alerts for Southern India. In the meantime, foggy conditions resulted in delays at IGI Airport as winter temperatures impacted the northern regions. Homeless individuals in Delhi looked for shelter in night shelters as temperatures fell.
The IMD released an orange advisory for the Delhi/NCR area due to fog, while air quality monitoring stations recorded alarming pollution levels. The AQI in Delhi was at 285, signifying hazardous air quality.
Furthermore, numerous trains experienced delays or cancellations because of the fog, with some of the major hold-ups including the Purushottam Express (311 minutes), Poorva Express (198 minutes), and JBP NZM SF Express (187 minutes), among others. The IMD logged a low temperature of 9. 6°C at Palam and 9. 4°C at Safdarjung.
